As the newly reincarnated Hokage adjust to their circumstance, Suigetsu marvels at being in the presence of Hashirama. When the situation of how their souls were released and then they were reincarnated is explained by Hiruzen and Minato, Hashirama bluntly asks who the latter was. Announcing himself via his title of Fourth Hokage, Hashirama is pleased that the village had seemingly enjoyed such stability but was later shocked and bit apprehensive to hear that his granddaughter had inherited the title of Fifth Hokage. The banter between the Hokage is soon cut short after Orochimaru allayed their outrage that he had reincarnated them to destroy Konoha and instead presented Sasuke to them. From this point, Sasuke first questioned the Third about the Uchiha Clan Downfall and Hiruzen sombrely confirmed all that the young man had been told, noting that this was something Itachi decided to shoulder himself. This led the conversation to segue into a conversation about the Uchiha with Tobirama and his decision, as well as motives behind giving the clan the Konoha Military Police Force as a sign of trust. Here it was revealed that the Uchiha was a clan possessed by evil, but above even the Senju, they valued love and friendship above all else, but as a result of this, its loss had an even greater-than-normal effect on them. Upon hearing all this, the young Uchiha turns towards the once-leader of the Senju clan, posing two questions to him: what the village meant, and what was the purpose of shinobi.
While Suigetsu marvels being in the presence of Hashirama, Tobirama is displeased with being reincarnated by Orochimaru once again. Hashirama voices his confusion, but Hiruzen explains that Orochimaru must have undone the Dead Demon Consuming Seal and reincarnated the four of them. Minato is impressed by Orochimaru's ability to undo the seal, and Orochimaru explains that after Hiruzen robbed him of his ability to use his arms, he went to great lengths to research how to undo the jutsu. In the process, he came across sealing techniques and documents belonging to the now defunct Uzumaki Clan. Hashirama inquires who Minato is, and is elated to learn he's the Fourth Hokage, taking it as a sign of Konoha's continued stability. Minato elaborates that his death and sealing preceded the Third's, much to the First's confusion. Hashirama wonders who the current Hokage is, and is bewildered when told it was his granddaughter, Tsunade, wondering aloud if the village still stands, which Minato comments upon. Hashirama explains that as Tsunade was his first granddaughter, he spoiled her greatly, leading to her picking up bad habits from him, including his gambling. Suigetsu is silently underwhelmed by Hashirama's unexpectedly exuberant and jocular demeanour.

Meanwhile, Tobirama comments on the use of his Edo Tensei technique, Orochimaru telling him that it was rather straightforward, while taunting him that he should have kept it to himself. He later added that it was Tobirama's policies that created instabilities that lasted to that day.

Tobirama then asks if he was going to attack Konoha again, to which Hashirama is visibly disappointed the world is still in turmoil, and begins to reprimand his sibling for persecuting the Uchiha during his reign as the Nidaime Hokage, but is promptly silenced by him. Orochimaru denies he summoned them to destroy Konoha, and instead presents them to Sasuke. Tobirama takes a jab at the Uchiha for being in Orochimaru's company, while Hashirama reminds him that he was talking to a pure-blooded Uchiha child.

Sasuke turns to the Third to question him about Itachi's mission, telling him how he learned of it from Tobi and Danzō after killing Itachi. Hiruzen confirms it, explaining that Itachi was very attuned to the village's history, and as such, never had strong ties to his own clan. Tobirama isn't surprised by the demise of the Uchiha clan, declaring that he always expected them to rebel. Orochimaru counters that the Second's actions contributed to the Uchiha's planned coup, pointing to Tobirama banishing them to the outskirts of the village under the pretext of putting them in charge of the Konoha Military Police Force.

Hashirama admonishes his sibling for his persecuting of the Uchiha, while Tobirama maintains he gave them a duty they could excel and justifies it by Madara's actions, saying the Uchiha clan is possessed by evil. Sasuke asks Tobirama why he feels that way towards the Uchiha, and is told that the general perception of the Uchiha as valuing techniques over love is mistaken. He elaborates that once the Uchiha know love, they are so caught up in it that whenever they experience the loss of a loved one, they are consumed by hatred to the point of blindness. The loss leads to the formation of a special type of Chakra in their brain, which is later revealed to be the awakening of the Sharingan. He explains that the further they are consumed by hatred, the stronger their eyes become, using Madara as an example. Hashirama states that Madara loved his younger brother, Izuna very much, possible even more than Itachi loved Sasuke. Tobirama tried to channel that power to Konoha's benefit, saying in the end, they served the greater good. Hashirama is outraged at his tone in front of a pure Uchiha child, and Sasuke activates his Mangekyō Sharingan, which Tobirama notices, stating he does not care the tone used, and that he's neither pure nor a child. Sasuke then ends by asking Hashirama what is the legacy of the village, and what purpose do shinobi fill.
