What are the smaller symbols over larger ones for? Edit

I had to ask ShonenSuki something, and I happened to see your post while I was there. I can't read kanji or any other Japanese writing, but I do know that those smaller symbols are called furigana. They're used to help the reader with pronunciation, I think. Darth Havoc (talk) 04:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Darth Havoc is right, the smaller signs are furigana, usually written in hiragana or katakana. The basically show how a kanji is supposed to be pronounced. For example, the kanji 人柱力 (jinchūriki) would have the hiragana じんちゅうりき as the furigana. However, they can also be used to bring more nuance to the text. To take 人柱力 as an example again: it wouldn't be strange to see these kanji with the katakana ナルト (Naruto), for example when an Akatsuki member is talking about Naruto as the jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails. I've also seen the kanji for younger brother (弟, otōto) and older brother (兄, ani) with the names for Sasuke and Itachi as furigana, or those of Gaara and Kankurō. --ShounenSuki (talk | contribs) 09:40, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Narutopedia Ranks Edit

Those are obsolete. We used to alias bureaucrat=kage, sysop=jonin, rollback=tokubetsu jonin, user=genin, anon=academy student just for some fun. However I removed this recently because people started to ask for "chunin exams" and "promotions" and were turning simple permission flags into a social status game. The userboxes were created then. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) May 16, 2009 @ 19:17 (UTC)

Parallels to "foreign" games and series Edit

Some people tend to add parallels to other games and series hinting that Naruto is some kind of a rip-off of that game or series. From the top of my head I can only recall the parallel put to some monster in Dragon Ball called Ino Shika Cho, some minor (I think) Naruto character had "strong resembelence" to some Bleach character, and then we have these quotes: "Rock Lee (like several other characters through the series) hold a strong resemble and may even be based off of video game character Wangtang from Capcom's Arcade game, Power Stone. (...)". Are these things okay to have in the articles, or should they be removed? ~Hakinu (talk | contribs) 21:13, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Those kind of statements are pure speculation, they have no basis to them. Frankly you can round up a few dozen anime/manga/games, look for similarities between characters in them, and you're almost guaranteed to find some. If you're looking for something you're going to find it, that doesn't mean it's at all relevant to the series. If someone had some citation that Kishimoto was influenced by something, coming from an interview, then ya it makes a good trivia note. But comparing naruto to X of Y type of media and saying that part of naruto MIGHT be based on it, is junk. There's far more complexity to that, it could be completely random, or it could be that both of the things were influenced by the same thing, that doesn't mean any relevance between them. For example, Soul Eater has Shinigami, Bleach has Shinigami, and Death Note has Shinigami. All are based of Japanese Shinigami, that doesn't mean that the series have any connection to each other or were based on each other in any way. While this one is obvious a lot of these subtle "might be based off of" may actually be because there was something they both were based on in Japanese myth which we, as foreigners are not familiar with. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Jun 3, 2009 @ 21:22 (UTC)

Re: Eyooo~ :D Edit

Welcome back. Sure I still accept block suggestions, even though the amount has dropped since Omnibender got promoted. Anyway, the character in question isn't a filler. His name is Okisuke. He is a Samurai that served as bodyguard for the samurai general Mifune. There isn't much more to say.

I hope I will see your signature in some notification about new edits. ^_^ Jacce | Talk | Contributions 04:30, June 22, 2011 (UTC)

Aspect Ratio Edit

Hey there, I don't have much time to spend with the Narutopedia and I'd normally do this myself but is it possible you could go through all the images before Shippuden Episode 54 and if they appear to be landscape, not portrait, tag them with {{Widescreen}} ? It'll help to fix incorrect ratios on such images. Thanks! :) --Speysider Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | My Wiki | Channel 12:51, September 30, 2012 (UTC)

Re: File:Haido Front.jpg Edit

Hey. I'm just wondering at which specific part of the Stone of Gelel movie you got this image from. Thanks! --Speysider Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | My Wiki | Channel 17:00, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Eh... by the way... Edit

It's back. I haven't seen Simant lately, so nowadays it's me, Omnibender, Snapper2, Ten Tailed Fox, TheUltimate3 and UltimateSupreme. Jacce | Talk | Contributions 03:29, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Not to be a total jerk or anything like that, but I think you should have worked in the community more before getting your rollback flag restored instead of simply asking to get it back. Plus, you could have asked any rollback user for it back, as any rollback user is able to grant the flag to others (I appreciate you wouldn't have known that though). It's great you are now a rollback again, but it may have been better for you to work in the community more, since people with the rollback have more rights than the flag used to have. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 09:46, August 22, 2014 (UTC)
That's fine. I was originally "Speysider" on the wiki, before I changed my name earlier this year. Regarding images: there are less issues with this, due in part to the customisations made by UltimateSupreme to the uploader. There are a few new templates you might find useful though:
  • {{PolicyRemind}}, {{PolicyWarn}} and {{PolicyLastWarn}}: A three-strikes system of warnings which covers all policy violations on the wiki, including images.
  • {{Unused}}: People tend to add images to their userpages, but this messes up Special:UnusedFiles (this page only covers images not in use on any part of the site): this template tags any images which aren't used in articles in a category that most of the sysops track for images that need to be deleted (eg an image that is only in use on a userpage or forum and not in any article would be tagged with this)
  • {{Widescreen}}: Images that are not in the appropriate aspect ratio are tagged with this. This is very rarely used, but it helps to ensure images don't make people look like they're bloated xD. I believe some images may still be improperly ratio'd but I think the amount is much smaller than it used to be.
Regarding the rollback flag, you now can:
  • Grant the flag to other people through Special:UserRights (you can't remove the flag once granted though)
  • Moderate the forums by editing anyone's posts (eg removing illegal links, images that are only in use on the forums etc)
  • Move files to new names (this essentially negates the requirement to use {{Poor filename}})
  • Suppress redirects being made when moving articles or files to new names (this is particularly useful for those involved in moving images to new names)
If there's anything you aren't sure about, feel free to give a nudge. As a user who is chiefly involved in the use of the images, you might find it useful to enable this script in your wikia.js on the wiki. :) --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 12:41, August 22, 2014 (UTC)
No problem! Glad to see you back, I simply found it strange that you got rollback back so fast. Hope you'll stick around for a while! :P --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 12:50, August 22, 2014 (UTC)
We can make requests and he responds. That is it. Jacce | Talk | Contributions 15:28, August 22, 2014 (UTC)
Oh! I forgot to mention a few other things:
  1. Our forums have been opened up to more discussions, feel free to contribute to any of them here: Board:Naruto Discussions. They do need careful moderation though, drop a message if you aren't sure about the best way to go about it.
  2. If you need to poke a sysop for anything, we have a requests page.
  3. We also have a live chatbox available, but it isn't used much: I would like to get that sorted, but it's difficult. You can find the onsite chat here: Special:Chat
Happy editing! :) --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 16:14, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Re: images page Edit

I created it manually. To create such a page, just go to User:Hakinu/Images and use code like this:

<gallery widths="120" heights="120" perrow="6" hideaddbutton=true>
<filename>.<fileext>|this is the text that will be displayed below the image
</gallery>

Replace <filename> with the actual filename and <fileext> with the file extension (eg File:Episode 50.png). Repeat the code as often as you need, on separate lines, to create an image gallery. You can, of course, separate your images into specific subsections if you have a lot of uploads. Hope this helps! :) --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 16:27, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Haha, well I quickly checked Special:ListFiles/Hakinu and there's only about 60 pics left. Most of them are character infobox pics that weren't replaced :P --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 16:32, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Crunchyroll Edit

We don't have a partnership with them, but they are considered a legal source of watching anime for everyone who isn't in the US (Hulu, Viz and Neon Alley are only for US residents) so we do not consider the episode released until it has been made available on Crunchyroll for premium members (it becomes available for everyone by the following week, so non-premium members are usually a week behind in regards to episodes). If it's not on Crunchyroll, it's not released and therefore, it's a spoiler. The spoiler policy has been around since 2010 and has mostly been followed, but it's been slacked off lately and ignored. :/ --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 13:47, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

The lack of content on the wiki has been more a fault of Kishi not really explaining the content he has been introducing. With the announcement that the series ends in a month, we will have all the time necessary to clear up everything.
The reasons the forums have gotten more attention is because they've given a reason for people to stay here. I don't know if you are aware, but last year (June 2013), this wiki was forced to disable anonymous contributions indefinitely to comply with COPPA regulations, due to the content and nature of this wiki. Because the wiki only focused on the content, there was little incentive for users to sign up to the wiki and therefore, the wiki became a small band of users and activity dipped severely. Heck, I'll even admit that I stopped coming here for a period because there was no reason for me to contribute.
While there is a consensus the forums have spiralled out of control, these issues are going to be sorted soon, because most recognise the forums have seriously gotten out of control, with flame wars started at least once a week on things there.
Hopefully this explains why the forums have so much more focus these days over mainspace. Also, just in case you didn't see it, we're polling for new sysops, feel free to chime in here: Thread:144129.
In regards to the thread you linked: people are finding that posting their queries about issues in articles is better done in the forums: edit conflicts make active talkpage discussions incredibly hard to contribute towards and suffer from over-activity as a result. Whereas with forums, it's all threaded in a nicer way. :)

Re: Evilryu Edit

I went ahead and left him a message. I am suspecting this user is another sockpuppet for someone who is obsessed with Karin (example users include User talk:Hey.honey, User talk:Emermbiemer and so on), so I'm probably going to leave a blockcheck for a sysop to deal with this user. Thanks for drawing it to my attention! :) --Sajuuk [Moderator] Talk Page | Contribs | Channel 16:13, September 29, 2014 (UTC)
