See also: Plot of Naruto and List of Naruto: Shippūden Episodes The plot of the second part of the manga and anime series Naruto, titled Naruto: Shippūden (疾風伝; lit. Hurricane Chronicles) in the anime and simply Part II in the manga, was set two and a half years after the present timeline in Part I. The new setting for the series began with volume 28 (chapter 245) of the manga. The anime adaptation of the manga started airing on February 15 2007, premiering with the first two episodes debuting in a one-hour special. Viz is working on a North American DVD series of Naruto Shippūden, which is planned for release on September 29, 2009. The US publication of the manga began in January 2008, in the US issue of Shonen Jump.[1]

The new story revolved mainly around Naruto Uzumaki and Sakura Haruno's new adventures, and their search for Sasuke Uchiha after he defected from Konoha in order to gain Orochimaru's power. The plot laters involves new major characters, such as Sai and Yamato. The plot also showed a more active Akatsuki in their quest to obtain all the tailed beasts.

Kazekage Rescue Mission

Main article: Kazekage Rescue Mission The Kazekage Rescue Mission (風影奪還任務, Kazekage Dakkan Ninmu), known simply as Kazekage Rescue (風影奪還, Kazekage Dakkan) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees the rescue of the Fifth Kazekage from Akatsuki. It spans through volumes 28 to 32,[2] or more specifically, covers chapters 245 to 281 of the manga and episodes 1 to 32 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. In the manga, it is preceded by Kakashi Gaiden; in the anime, it is preceded by the Ultimate Weapon Arc. In both medias, it is followed by the Tenchi Bridge Reconnaissance Mission.

Tenchi Bridge Reconnaissance Mission

Main article: Tenchi Bridge Reconnaissance Mission The Tenchi Bridge Reconnaissance Mission (天地橋偵察任務, Tenchi-Kyō Teisatsu Ninmu; Literally meaning "Heaven and Earth Bridge Reconnaissance Mission"), known as the Long-Awaited Reunion (遥かなる再会, Harukanaru Saikai) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees Team 7's mission to the Tenchi Bridge to find Sasuke Uchiha. It spans through volumes 32 to 35,[3] or more specifically, covers chapters 282 to 310 of the manga and episodes 33 to 53 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. This arc is preceded by the Kazekage Rescue Mission; in the manga, it is followed by the Akatsuki Suppression Mission while it is followed by the Twelve Guardian Ninja in the anime.

Akatsuki Suppression Mission

Main article: Akatsuki Suppression Mission The Akatsuki Suppression Mission (“暁”討伐任務, "Akatsuki" Tōbatsu Ninmu), known as the Immortal Devastators — Hidan and Kakuzu (不死の破壊者、飛段・角都, Fushi no Hakaisha Hidan Kakuzu) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees Konoha's fight against Hidan and Kakuzu of Akatsuki. It spans through volumes 35 to 38,[4] or more specifically, covers chapters 311 to 342 of the manga and episodes 72 to 88 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. In the manga, this arc is preceded by the Tenchi Bridge Reconnaissance Mission and followed by the Itachi Pursuit Mission. In the anime, it is preceded by the Twelve Guardian Ninja and is followed by the Three-Tails' Appearance.

Itachi Pursuit Mission

Main article: Itachi Pursuit Mission The Itachi Pursuit Mission (イタチ追跡任務, Itachi Tsuiseki Ninmu), known as Master's Prophecy and Vengeance (師の予言と復讐, Shi no Yogen to Fukushū) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees the separate attempts of Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki to find Itachi Uchiha. It spans through volumes 38 to 40,[5] or more specifically, covers chapters 343 to 367 of the manga and episodes 113 to 123 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime; two episodes of Kakashi Gaiden are shown in the interim. In the manga, it is preceded by the Akatsuki Suppression Mission; in the anime, it is preceded by the Three-Tails' Appearance. In both medias, it is followed by the Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant.

Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant

Main article: Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant (自来也豪傑物語, Jiraiya Gōketsu Monogatari), known as Master's Prophecy and Vengeance (師の予言と復讐, Shi no Yogen to Fukushū) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees Jiraiya's investigation of Pain's identity. It spans through volumes 40 to 42,[6] or more specifically, covers chapters 368 to 383 in the manga and episodes 124 to 137 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. This arc is preceded by the Itachi Pursuit Mission and followed by the Fated Battle Between Brothers.

Fated Battle Between Brothers

Main article: Fated Battle Between Brothers The Fated Battle Between Brothers (連命の兄弟対决, Unmei no Kyōdai Taiketsu), known as Master's Prophecy and Vengeance (師の予言と復讐, Shi no Yogen to Fukushū) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees the battle between Sasuke Uchiha and his brother Itachi. It spans through volumes 42 to 44,[7] or more specifically, covers chapters 384 to 412 in the manga and episodes 138 to 143 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. This arc is preceded by the Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant; in the manga it is followed by Pain's Assault and in the anime it is followed by the Six-Tails Unleashed.

Pain's Assault (Arc)

Main article: Pain's Assault (Arc) Pain's Assault (ペイン強襲, Pein Kyōshū), known as Two Saviours (二人の救世主, Futari no Kyūseishu) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees Pain's attack on Konohagakure to find Naruto Uzumaki. It spans through volumes 45 to 48,[8] or more specifically, covers chapters 413 to 453 of the manga and episodes 152 to 175 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. In the manga, this arc is preceded by the Fated Battle Between Brothers and followed by the Five Kage Summit. In the anime, it is preceded by the Six-Tails Unleashed and is followed by the Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha.

Five Kage Summit (Arc)

Main article: Five Kage Summit (Arc) The Five Kage Summit (五影会談, Gokage Kaidan), known as The Gathering of the Five Kage (五影集結, Gokage Shūketsu) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees the convening of a Kage Summit to discuss how to deal with Akatsuki. It spans through volumes 49 to 51,[9] or more specifically, covers chapters 454 to 483 of the manga and episodes 197 to 221 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. In the manga, this arc is preceded by Pain's Assault and followed by the Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown. In the anime, it is preceded by the Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha and is followed by the Paradise Life on a Boat.

Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown

Main article: Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown The Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown (第四次忍界大戦 (序), Daiyoji Ninkai Taisen (Jo)), known as Nine-Tails Taming and Karmic Encounters (九尾掌握と因果なる邂逅, Kyūbi Shōaku to Inga Naru Kaikō) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees the preparations for the Fourth Shinobi World War by all the warring parties. It spans through volumes 52 to 55,[10] or more specifically, covers chapters 484 to 516 of the manga and episodes 216 to 222 in the Naruto: Shippūden anime, followed by the Paradise Life on a Boat, and later picks up from episodes 243 to 261. It is preceded by the Five Kage Summit and followed by the Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation.

Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation

Main article: Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation The Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation (第四次忍界大戦 (破), Daiyoji Ninkai Taisen (Ha)), known as The Seven Shinobi Swordsmen (忍刀七人衆, Shinobigatana Shichinin-shū) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees the start of the Fourth Shinobi World War, specifically the battle against the Impure World Reincarnation. It spans through volumes 55 to 59,[11] or more specifically, covers chapters 517 to 559 of the manga and episodes 262 to 321 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime; the six episodes of the arc about Power are shown in the interim. This arc is preceded by the Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown and followed by the Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax.

Main article: Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax The Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax (第四次忍界大戦 (急), Daiyoji Ninkai Taisen (Kyū)), known as The Fourth Great Ninja War - Assailants From Afar (忍界大戦・彼方からの攻撃者, Ninkai Taisen - Kanata kara no Kōgekisha), The Fourth Great Ninja War - Sasuke and Itachi (忍界大戦・サスケとイタチ, Ninkai Taisen - Sasuke to Itachi) and The Fourth Great Ninja War - Team 7 Returns (忍界大戦・第七班再び, Ninkai Taisen - Dainanahan Futatabi) in the anime, is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees the Allied Shinobi Forces' fight against Kabuto Yakushi, Tobi, and Madara Uchiha as part of the ongoing Fourth Shinobi World War. It spans through volumes 59 to 67,[12] or more specifically, covers chapters 560 to 639 of the manga and episodes 322 to 375 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. This arc is preceded by the Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation and followed by the Birth of the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki.

Birth of the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki

Main article: Birth of the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki Birth of the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki (十尾の人柱力誕生, Jūbi no Jinchūriki Tanjō) is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees Obito Uchiha and Madara Uchiha becoming the jinchūriki of the Ten-Tails. It spans through volumes 67 to 70,[13] or more specifically, covers chapters 640 to 677 of the manga and from episodes 378 to 388 in the Naruto: Shippūden anime and later picks up on episode 391 onwards. This arc is preceded by the Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax and followed by Kaguya Ōtsutsuki Strikes.

Kaguya Ōtsutsuki Strikes

Main article: Kaguya Ōtsutsuki Strikes Kaguya Ōtsutsuki Strikes (大筒木カグヤ襲来, Ōtsutsuki Kaguya Shūrai) is an arc from Part II of the series. This arc sees the attempt of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki to take over the world. It spans from volumes 70 to 71,[14] and covers chapters 678 to 699 of the manga. This arc is preceded by the Birth of the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki and followed by the events of The Last: Naruto the Movie.

Anime-only arcs

Twelve Guardian Ninja (Arc)

Main article: Twelve Guardian Ninja (Arc) Twelve Guardian Ninja (守護忍十二士, Shugonin Jūnishi) is an arc of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. It covers episodes 54 to 71. The arc expands upon the Twelve Guardian Ninja and Naruto's wind training through the introduction of a boy named Sora. This arc is preceded by the Tenchi Bridge Reconnaissance Mission and followed by the Akatsuki Suppression Mission.

Three-Tails' Appearance

Main article: Three-Tails' Appearance The Three-Tails' Appearance (三尾出現, Sanbi Shutsugen) is an arc of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. It covers episodes 89 to 112. It deals with the efforts of Akatsuki, Konoha, and Team Guren to capture the Three-Tails. This arc is preceded by the Akatsuki Suppression Mission and followed by the Itachi Pursuit Mission.

Six-Tails Unleashed

Main article: Six-Tails Unleashed The Six-Tails Unleashed (六尾発動, Rokubi Hatsudō) is an arc of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. It covers episodes 144 to 151. It deals with the bond between masters and students named Utakata, the jinchūriki of Six-Tails, and his student Hotaru. This arc is preceded by the Fated Battle Between Brothers and followed by Pain's Assault.

Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha

Main article: Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha The Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha (過去篇~木ノ葉の軌跡~, Kako Hen: Konoha no Kiseki) is an arc of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. It covers episodes 176 to 196. This arc is shown as multiple flashbacks from different characters, such as Iruka remembering the time he first met Naruto and Kakashi remembering when he was appointed as leader of Team 7 from his perspective. The first flashback takes place prior Part I while the rest all take place before the time-skip. This arc is preceded by Pain's Assault and is followed by the Five Kage Summit.

Paradise Life on a Boat

Main article: Paradise Life on a Boat Paradise Life on a Boat (船上のパラダイスライフ, Senjō no Paradaisu Raifu) is an arc of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. It covers episodes 222 to 242. This arc shows Naruto and his team on their journey to the Land of Lightning by sea, to confine him from Akatsuki during the Fourth Shinobi World War, as well as character development for the Konoha 11. This arc is preceded by the Five Kage Summit and is followed by the Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown.

Power (Arc)

Main article: Power (Arc) Power (力, Chikara) is an arc of the Naruto: Shippūden anime, commemorating a total of 500 episodes. It covers episodes 290 to 295. In this arc, set a short while after the Five Kage Summit amidst the looming threat of a Fourth Shinobi World War, Team Kakashi is sent on a mission to investigate the massacre of Tonika Village by Kabuto Yakushi and his reincarnated shinobi, who are searching for a treasure consisting of great power.[15]

Kakashi's Anbu Arc: The Shinobi That Lives in the Darkness

Main article: Kakashi's Anbu Arc: The Shinobi That Lives in the Darkness Kakashi's Anbu Chapter ~ The Shinobi That Lives in the Darkness (カカシ暗部篇 ~闇を生きる忍~, Kakashi Anbu Hen ~ Yami o Ikiru Shinobi) is an arc of the Naruto: Shippūden anime. It covers episodes 349 to 361. The arc focuses on Kakashi Hatake's Anbu background, while also exploring the backgrounds of others such as Yamato and Itachi Uchiha.[16] This arc takes place in the middle of the Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax.
