Discovered, the two reveal themselves as [[Itachi Uchiha]] and [[Kisame Hoshigaki]]. Recognising how dangerous they are, Asuma and Kurenai prepare for battle. Asuma protects Kurenai from Kisame's attack while Kurenai uses a [[genjutsu]] on Itachi. Itachi easily reverses it and Kurenai only barely evades his counter-attack. Asuma exchanges blows with Kisame but is unable to keep up. As he and Kurenai are about to be killed, [[Kakashi]] arrives and saves them both, apologising for intervening in their battle.
